As a supervisor, only professors are allowed. Scientific publications, lectures or contacts of your former professors can help you when searching. Another good option: Find out which German university offers a PhD program in your subject. More and more universities offer interesting doctoral programs and graduate programs for PhD students.

Application

Acceptance of previous academic and examination: When you find an applicable university, the best way is to contact the Dean of the Faculty which is responsible for you. Add to your cover letter, an expose of your dissertation project, a description of your experience in the research field as well as your CV. For the admission to a PhD program, the acceptance of your previous academic and examination is essential. Whether you are admitted to a doctoral program is granted by a doctoral committee at your chosen university. Funding: low tution fees and miscellaneous fees

The tution fees during the PhD program are low or even cease to exist. In addition, there are a lot of scholarships for graduate students and scientists which pay the costs of study and living. For more detailed information related to scholarships click here.

 
 

 

PhD programs at German universities


As part of the traditional university system, there are no required courses within the doctoral studies. However, to guarantee a successful doctorate of foreign students, more and more universities offer courses and seminars as part of their graduate programs. These are supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the German Academinc Exchange Service (DAAD). While there are no scholarships for all doctoral programs, but do not forget the possibility of financial support from the DAAD when writing your doctoral thesis.
